Amy L. Aberg McLelland, NCTM - Pianist, Accompanist, Adjudicator, Clinician, and Nationally Certified Teacher with over 30 years teaching experience in colleges and independent studios. She holds Bachelor and Master degrees in piano performance and, since 1996, has pursued intensive postgraduate studies in ergonomic motion and the Taubman Approach in New York City with Edna Golandsky and John Bloomfield, receiving teacher certification with The Golandsky Institute at the instructor level. In demand as a pianist, lecturer and adjudicator, McLelland regularly performs and conducts master classes on piano technic, injury prevention, and other topics. She has appeared as soiloist with symphony orchestras, in chamber groups, and in solo recitals across the country and abroad and is the recipient of numerous awards, scholarships, and grants. INSTRUCTION: The McLelland Piano Studio offers quality music instruction in piano and organ for students of all ages and levels of advancement. Through a unique combination of private lessons, computer music lab, small-group musicianship classes, and numerous special events, students will receive specialized training in such areas as: piano (or organ) performance, sight reading, keyboard theory and technic, harmonization, ear-training, transposition, improvisation, written theory and notation, composition, music history, ensemble and concerto work, and much more. Individual goals and objectives are developed for each student based upon the student's age, ability, and interests.

PRIVATE LESSON: The private lesson format allows the teacher to concentrate on specific musical and personal needs, providing opportunities for individualized advancement. A wide selection of repertoire is carefully selected to match the needs and strengths of each student -- from the music of such great composers as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Brahms, to the music of our times through jazz, pop, blues, and improvisation. Each student receives a detailed assignment notebook, with practice suggestions, weekly evaluations, ear-training/listening/history assignments, and reminders of upcoming events.

MUSICIANSHIP CLASSES: Students receive encouragement and develop strong performance and listening skills through the regular, small-group classes. Grouped according to age, level, and personality-type, students are provided a stress-free environment to perform with and for their peers and receive valuable reinforcement of concepts introduced in the private lessons.

FACILITIES: Students can enjoy their music-making in the well-equipped studio overlooking the beautiful Lake Paradise, featuring concert grands and upright pianos, electric keyboards, a computer music lab, and audio/video lab, an ever-growing reading/audio/video music and reference library, including the world renowned Taubman videos, texts, periodicals. In the computer/listening lab, students will find a television for video viewing, stereo for cd/tape recordings, and keyboard lab for extra sight-reading practice, and for the interactive music educational computer software including Encore, Music Ace, Alfreds, Practical Theory, Music Time, Piano Maestro and other apps, and much more.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Special masterclasses and workshops are presented throughout the year providing exposure to all aspects of the instrument and fostering a deeper appreciation of music. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, she has been an official MTNA accompanist and has concertized both as piano soloist and accompanist across much of the Southeast and New England. She has appeared with several orchestras and chamber ensembles. Her students are regular prize winners in numerous piano competitions at both local and state levels.
