As a full time professional musician and educator with over in the Long Valley and Chester area since 1991, I approach every student as an individual regardless of their level. My mission is to nurture, motivate and inspire the innate talent within each student. This is achieved by creating a unique program of study that leads to the fulfillment of their complete musical potential.
I especially enjoy teaching children with no previous experience. I offer a comfortable atmosphere for learning that fosters a love and appreciation for all that music has to offer.
The study of a musical instrument accelerates the growth of intelligence and establishes a keen sense of personal discipline. By focusing the mind and calming the nerves, music making is one of the healthiest outlets for self-expression, creativity and joy.

An influential and authentically innovative figure in the evolution of modern Jazz, George Russell (June 23, 1923 – July 27, 2009) was one of its greatest composers, and its most important theorist. His The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization, first published in 1953, is credited as a great pathbreaker into modal music, as pioneered by Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
Most of Jazz music’s most important developments since the 1950s — from modal improvisation to electronics, African polyrhythms to free form, atonality to jazz rock — were taken to another level by Russell’s pioneering work. Russell\'s Living Time Orchestra has performed throughout the world, including the Barbican Centre and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Festival d’Automne and Cîté de la Musique in Paris, and Tokyo Music Joy. His career as a leader includes major label releases on LP and CD of more than 30 recordings, working with such musicians as Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, and Jan Garbarek.

|Blog: ||Most students have access to the technology that works as a digital music workstation (DAW). There is so much you can create with a computer and piano-style keyboard via USB or MIDI. Here are tips on using these tools to help you practice and study.
Start by identifying which of these subjects interests you. Look online for software that is compatible with your computer (Mac or PC). Most software tools have a free version that you can try out and learn with. Buy the software once you know it is a tool that works for you and then take advantage of the full-featured version, program updates, the tech support, etc.
Here are the categories of technology tools that will help you study, learn, practice and improve your musicality:
learn the art of notating your charts, lead sheets, compositions or arrangements by using software that allows your printed music to look professional, clear and accurate.
learn the art of transcribing the music you hear to work on ear training.
learn to use music sequencing software along with a MIDI keyboard to assign different instruments of the band, choir or orchestra to different MIDI channels and hear back your music as an ensemble.
take advantage of the full spectrum of digital music tools to structure, produce, record and notate your own music.
learn to incorporate digital music technology into every phase of your production, from conception to the final CD or MP3 files for the internet

This teacher-student accord energizes the heart as well as the head, propagating a genuine passion for discovery, insight and maturity throughout a lifetime of learning.
“Mentor,” the proper name from Homer’s Odyssey, has become a noun. An individual in receipt of mentorship is referred to as a protégé (male), a protégée (female), student, apprentice, or in recent years, a mentee.
History reveals well-regarded examples of mentorships, including: Socrates and Plato, Haydn and Beethoven, Freud and Jung. Biblical texts refer to Paul and Timothy, Moses and Joshua, Elisha and Elijah, Naomi and Ruth, Mary and Elizabeth.
A sincere, legitimate mentor is an experienced person – ‘a wise and responsible tutor’ – who advises, inspires, challenges, guides, guards, corrects, and serves as pathfinder for those under their wing. They must “walk their talk” by exemplifying the benefits of doing what you do in your life’s work simply because you love doing it. The aim is stir up the gifts so the apprentice’s talent flowers towards the highest level within their capacity.
It is crucial for a mentor to guide a less experienced person with trust and wisdom. This supports a mentee’s character enrichment with balance, positive mentalism and healthy emotional behavior. A mentor must be dependable, engaged, authentic and finely tuned to the multidimensional needs of the protégé.
It is rare for a qualified mentor to find a student who is in the proper state of receptivity to be an industrious and conscientious protege. Similarly, it is quite extraordinary in modern times for a student seeking mentorship to gravitate the best-suited mentor for their path who is able to serve them abundantly in the long run.|

I have worked diligently throughout my 35 years as a private music teacher to craft a comprehensive program for the few outstanding students that have potential and interest to be guided by a mentor in music.
The foundation of these efforts arose from my own apprenticeship with three 20th century masters and mentors of music who adopted me as their protégé. My work with Dwike Mitchell (piano), George Russell (theory and composition), and Papa Ladji Camara (West African percussion) lasted over three decades.
Now it’s my turn to pass it on.
The aim is to share the most meaningful aspects of my life’s work, expertise and vulnerability as a full-time professional artist and “eternal student” by sharing fundamental virtues of mentorship with dedicated students.
Here’s my list of the top seven virtues of mentoring that provide a solid and healthy foundation to build on:

developing trust by displaying humility, patience, kindness and respect
maintaining confidentiality with relaxed rapport and open dialog
