Testimonials

Name:  Rifka Harris
Title:  Testimonial
Testimonial:  I am writing this reference letter on behalf of Karine Koroukian. I have known Ms. Koroukian for almost three years, and have retained her as my daughters piano teacher. My three daughters especially my youngest, Abby, who is now only seven years old, have thrived under her tutelage. She is unique in many ways, but most pronounced is her profound sense of professionalism. She treats her pupils like adults, and her expectations are high. Her students accomplish great things because great things are expected of them. She instills in her charges a tremendous dedication and musicality, and inspires them to push themselves. The second way in which her instruction is uniquely valuable is that it is broad. There is music theory, music history, solfge even composition (she had Abby take dictation last week) bound up in the lesson, all presented at a level microscopically beyond their grasp, and when they reach for it and they are oh so motivated to do so because the children feel palpably how very much she believes in them -- they inevitably grow in leaps and bounds. Abby progressed farther in her two years of lessons than I did my own six years (and I was much older than she is now when I started). In a generation where it is hard to find young children dedicated to anything, she inspires them to work hard, and even to love working hard. She motivates them to be responsible beyond their years, and to pride themselves for it. That is a lesson that transcends even music. And lest you get the impression that her methods are somehow draconian, I can personally attest to the fact that giggles emanate regularly from the practice room. I am additionally tremendously grateful for the care she takes to make sure her pupils are ergonomically postured from the start. Lastly, I would like to say that I personally feel tremendously blessed that my children know her. She is a role model to them, and not just musically. She is a tremendously refined, kind, patient and caring person. She is modest about her own accomplishments and truly believes in the respective potentials of her students. She crystallizes what it is to be substantive and actual for them she is the antidote to a generation that venerates style over substance. The gain so much from just knowing her completely aside from anything that she is actually attempting to teach them. I recommend Ms. Koroukian without reservation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or if you would like to talk further. Sincerely, Rifka Wein Harris
