Bill Cook has been a teacher of piano for twenty years. He is a member of M.T.A.C. He has a multifaceted background of classical music and jazz music. Bill started lessons with Herb Mickman, pianist and bassist for Sarah Vaughn. Arranging with Grammy award winner Allen “Weaver” Copeland.

Bill won scholarships to study with classical virtuosa Marilyn Thompson. But foremost were two years with author of The Jazz Piano Book and The Jazz Theory Book, Mark Levine. Bill also studied privately with Grammy Award Winner Tom Coster, Producer and Keyboardist for Santana and Steve Smith’s Vital Information.

Bill graduated “cum laude with distinction in music” from Sonoma State University under instruction of Mel Graves. On the classical side again, Bill did Graduate studies in Russian Composition with San Francisco Conservatoire’s head, Dr. Larry Snider.

Bill is at home teaching everything from Jazz, Rock, Blues and Country to Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff and Schoenberg.

Bill’s teaching strengths are in his ability to relate cheerfully with small children to senior citizens.

Bill has recorded or performed with Ritchie Cole, Colin Bailey, Tom Hayashi,

Seward Mc Cain, Bobby Shew, Frank Portenza, Cornelius Bumpus, Madeline Eastman, Sonny Wilkinson, and Sid Jacobs.

Bill’s composition “Airborne” was recorded by Smooth Jazz artists James Michael Joseph which was on the Gavin Smooth Jazz Chart. It is available on the album Slight of Hand through Tower Records. Call (916) 447-8850 for information on lessons or bookings.
