Specializing in collaborative performance, Katie Franklin has recorded for Capstone Records. While in New York City, she was a regular guest artist on the Long Island Composer's Alliance concert series and has played for such composers as John Harbison, Jake Heggie, Ricky Ian Gordon, and John Corigliano. Now living in Southern California, she is available as an accompanist for vocalists and instrumentalists. Currently, Katie has room in her schedule to accept a limited number of new students. She has taught undergraduate courses at CUNY Queens College and has maintained a private studio for more almost twenty years. In teaching, Katie strives to give her students, no matter what their level of proficiency, a firm understanding of score-reading, musicianship, technique, and artistry so that they can become fully-developed pianists in their own right. This is especially important for the student who has no plans for a musical career: in learning how to decipher scores and solve problems on their own, they will have tools they can use for the rest of their lives...they will be able to sit down years later and figure out a piece of music on their own rather than be limited to playing one or two pieces they learned with a teacher. For those students interested in more detailed work, Katie also teaches the concepts of the Taubman technique, a technique that capitalizes on the body's natural movements in such a way as to produce healthy virtuosity.
